Copper Mesh Column Packing

Copper Mesh column packing is great for removing the sulfides from the stainless columns. Make a nice packing for any reflux column. The width comes into 4” or 5”, length in whatever you purchase.

Suggested use:

1 pound of copper will pack a 2″ column twice and a 3″ column once.

We suggest to clean the copper with Citric Acid, rinse with water, and let air dry after each run. Replace copper packing every 6-8 runs.

Copper mesh packing is primarily designed for reflux distilling to make a cleaner purer smell free product. If you are using a stainless steel column and have trouble with off smells and tastes then this is a must for you. It will produce the almost perfect smell free taste free distillate.

DOUBLE WALL pure copper mesh packing 4" width is very good to use in your reflux column. This packing yields the best results for high abv and removing copper sulfides for better taste, than any other type of packing. When you receive the mesh, it is precut. All you need to do is roll it and fit into your column.Roll the mesh is not very tight. Otherwise, there will be a flood in this place if your system is based on returning the liquid back to the column.

Our mesh is made of four-wire thread. This provides a large surface area. Stiffeners increase the strength and capacity of the column. Unlike other sellers who sell similar mesh, we use wire of greater thickness. This extends the life of the grid.

We has lab results of this packing to prove it is 99.95% pure copper and safe to use.

When rolled up, this pure copper mesh makes for a great still column packing. We recommend the copper wire mesh column packing for every still tower/head since copper mesh will help remove the sulfites from your distillate vapors, leaving you with a much purer (and better tasting!) product. Typically 1 pound of copper mesh and 1 liter of ceramic raschig rings is enough to pack one of our 2 inch dual purpose reflux columns or 3 inch dual purpose reflux columns.

While this copper screen should last a long time, you will eventually need to replace it. In the beginning, as the surface turns black (as a result of the reaction with the sulfides), you can renew the copper's surface by soaking it in a bath of citric acid and tap water. However, as it reacts with those sulfides, it will get thinner and thinner over time and eventually it will start disintegrating. At that point, we would recommend purchasing some new copper mesh.

Our copper column packing comes to us coated in a food safe oil (to protect against corrosion) that we wash off in our industrial washer before sending to you. We highly recommend giving it a boil in some water with or soaking in citric acid before using this copper column packing in your still.
